A salty, green sauce made from fresh basil, chives, garlic, and oregano. This sauce can be poured over anything!
This creamy basil sauce is everywhere: sandwiches, eggs, grilled chicken, and vegetables dipped in French fries?! It’s so good, full of green goodness, and beautiful in summer. I do the most with it.
How to make basil sauce
Step 1: Prepare all the ingredients
You can use a blender, food processor, or a small gadget. I love this mini helicopter (affiliate link). It’s not necessarily for sauces, but I use it because it’s compact.

Step 2: Mix basil sauce
That’s it! Just mix, taste, and adjust!

This sauce can be a little sticky, so keep stirring until you reach the desired consistency. I prefer something eaten before it is pureed—there are a few noticeable spots of herbs, but it is smooth and creamy.
Step 3: Put it on everything that tastes good

Oh, baby. Basil, chives, garlic, and a little oregano, all in a creamy, salty, bright green sauce – I love this one so much.
The first time I made this, my kid (who only eats cookies) found a spatula and sat on the counter with me, licking the leftover sauce from the blender. I’ve heard from many people- that kids are interested in this for unknown reasons. Sometimes, it’s just meant to be, you know? An A+ for this experience.
What I love most about this sauce, besides the fact that it tastes like heaven, is that it makes me eat healthy, which I’m really looking forward to.
In my book, grilled salmon is 100 notches better when slathered in this creamy green sauce. The same goes for shrimp, chicken, a large fresh salad, or lots of grilled vegetables.
This won’t be the last time we see this sauce, so I decided to post it separately on POY. Welcome home, little basil sauce.
Instructions
- Place all the sauce ingredients in a blender or food processor. (I use this small cutter for most sauces because it’s nice and compact!)
- Whisk to your desired consistency – I usually opt for an almost completely smooth texture, topped with tiny bits of vanilla.
