Let’s delve into the world of these unique toasted, sweet, nutty brussel sprouts. They bring together the tender, crunchy texture of whole Brussels sprouts with ultra-crunchy leaves, all enveloped in a delightful mustard maple moisture and sprinkled with juicy dried cranberries. The result? A flavor explosion that’s simply irresistible.

I rarely have “favorites” in my House because I constantly change them. I am always trying new recipes and always doing the next thing. We seldom stay on one recipe for a maximum of a few repetitions, as new! It’s exciting! All right, all right. But this recipe has been made every week for the last five months. It has firmly earned its place as the most famous member of the House. We make these Brussels sprouts. Yes. Time.

Dads love them, kids love them, moms love them, and everybody loves them. Plus, The guests love it, too, although usually, if there’s more than us, we’ll need to double the recipe because, yes, in our House, the three of us will finish a pan.

How to make delicious Brussels sprouts

Let’s get started!

  1. Prepare the Brussels sprouts. Cut off the bulb’s root, remove the outer leaves, and cut in half vertically. Turn on some music or a good show and head to town.
  2. Then, stir the Brussels sprouts in olive oil, bake in the oven, and cut side down until they are fragrant and crisp.
  3. Add the walnuts at the last minute and toast them slightly.
  4. Cranberries join the cooling party.
  5. Finally, the sauce goes straight into the pan. By sauce, I mean a pinch of Dijon mustard and a drop of maple syrup (maybe a little balsamic vinegar if you like something vital?). If you like it hot, use olive oil, salt, and red pepper.

It’s incredibly simple. We’re in business.

The most popular Brussels sprouts: Common questions

I’m allergic to nuts. What can I use instead?

You can omit the nuts altogether, or if you have seeds, you can add pumpkin seeds here. Once you add the pumpkin seeds, keep a close eye on them so they don’t burn.

If Brussels sprouts are a side dish, what should I go with them?

The best thing about these buddies is they can go with almost anything. Some ideas (if you have more time) include date night lemon pasta, these Swedish meatballs, or this bacon and white wine sauce fried chicken. YUM! (For SOS-friendly recipes, see the list in the section above.)

How do I prepare Brussels sprouts in advance?

Brussels sprouts are best fresh and crisp right out of the oven, so to prepare ahead of time, I recommend cutting the Brussels sprouts so they’re ready to roast and stirring together the mustard and maple syrup so they’re ready to eat!

Can I add the meat to the Brussels sprouts?

I should think so! Some diced pancetta or bacon would be excellent, and you can also make some salmon to go with it.

Are there any herbs I can add?

Absolutely! Thyme and rosemary would be good additions.

Can I add cheese?

That sounds delicious! Yes. Grated goat cheese or feta cheese will be delicious.
